Chennai: French automotive technology major Valeo on Wednesday announced that one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers has nominated its Smart Safety 360 (VSS360) advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for commercial vehicles, marking a significant expansion of the company’s safety technology business in the country.

The company said the new-generation ADAS solution, developed specifically for Indian road and operating conditions, will be manufactured at its facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

The Valeo Smart Safety 360 system integrates a range of safety and driver assistance functions aimed at improving road safety and supporting compliance with upcoming safety regulations in India’s commercial vehicle segment.

The system includes features such as Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System and Moving Off Information System, which helps protect pedestrians and cyclists during vehicle pull-away.

It also incorporates Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning software designed to monitor driver alertness and reduce fatigue-related accidents.

Marc Vrecko said the order demonstrates the company’s ability to deploy advanced ADAS technologies in demanding road environments while significantly enhancing vehicle safety.

He said India remains a key pillar of Valeo’s “Elevate 2028” strategy, with the company focused on delivering scalable and cost-optimised safety technologies tailored for Indian conditions.

Jayakumar G said the nomination marks an important milestone for the company’s ADAS business in India’s commercial vehicle segment.

He said localisation of advanced safety technologies would help Valeo deliver competitive solutions customised to the needs of domestic vehicle manufacturers.

According to the company, increasing regulatory focus on road safety and driver fatigue mitigation is expected to accelerate ADAS adoption across India’s commercial vehicle industry.

Valeo said the VSS360 system has been engineered as a scalable “one-box” ADAS platform integrating radar fusion technology within a smart front camera, enabling vehicle makers to optimise costs by eliminating multiple electronic control units while simplifying integration into existing vehicle architectures.

The system uses three radars and one camera developed and integrated by Valeo using computer vision technology.

A key feature of the platform is its Univolt camera technology, which supports both 12-volt and 24-volt electrical architectures, enabling deployment across a broad range of commercial vehicles, from light commercial vehicles to heavy-duty trucks.

The company added that the system also supports over-the-air software updates to maintain performance and functionality throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
