New Delhi: Ashok Leyland on Monday reported a 4 per cent year-on-year decline in total vehicle sales at 14,923 units in May 2026, weighed down by weak demand in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment.
The company had sold 15,484 units in May 2025. Domestic sales also declined 3 per cent to 14,148 units in May 2026 from 14,534 units in the same month last year.
Total M&HCV sales dropped 11 per cent to 8,320 units in the domestic market, compared with 9,386 units in May 2025, led by a 5 per cent fall in truck sales and a sharp 35 per cent decline in bus sales.
LCV sales, however, provided some support, rising 13 per cent to 5,828 units in the domestic market, up from 5,148 units a year earlier.
In the combined domestic and export market, total vehicle sales declined 4 per cent to 14,923 units from 15,484 units in May 2025.
M&HCV bus sales in the combined segment fell sharply 39 per cent to 1,635 units, while total M&HCV sales declined 13 per cent to 8,966 units.
LCV sales in the combined market rose 15 per cent to 5,957 units compared with 5,202 units in the year-ago period, partially offsetting weakness in the heavy vehicle segment.
