Gurugram: Automotive components maker Uno Minda Limited on Saturday said its board has approved the setting up of a greenfield manufacturing facility in Maharashtra for high-voltage electric powertrain products for passenger vehicles at an investment of around Rs 550 crore.

The facility will be established at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, formerly known as Aurangabad, through the company’s subsidiary Uno Minda Auto Innovations Private Limited (UMAIPL), the company said in a statement.

The plant will manufacture and assemble advanced electric powertrain systems, including Electric Drive Units (EDU) and Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) systems for four-wheeler passenger vehicles.

The company said the expansion is supported by significant new orders received from a key anchor customer for EDU and DHT systems.

According to the company, the total investment for the project is estimated at around Rs 550 crore and will be funded through a mix of debt and equity. The capital expenditure will be incurred in phases over the next two years, while the facility is expected to be commissioned by the second quarter of FY28.

The announcement comes shortly after UMAIPL began work on another EV powertrain facility at Khed City in Pune, which is expected to commence operations in the second half of FY27.

Commenting on the development, Uno Minda Managing Director Ravi Mehra said the Indian automotive sector is witnessing a structural transition towards sustainable mobility and the company is strengthening its position in the evolving segment through localization and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

He said the new facility would help expand the company’s EV powertrain portfolio while enabling domestic production of global-standard high-voltage technologies for the Indian market.
