New Delhi: Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd on Friday said its newly launched cargo three-wheeler, Piaggio Apé Xtra Bada 700, has secured an order for over 100 units from Heidelberg Cement India Limited for deployment across 53 districts in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
The company said the vehicles will be used for distribution operations in the cement sector, marking one of the first large-scale deployments of the newly introduced diesel cargo three-wheeler.
According to the company, the order highlights the vehicle’s capability to compete with entry-level four-wheeler small commercial vehicles while offering improved operating economics for last-mile and regional transportation.
The Apé Xtra Bada 700 is built on a new platform and is powered by a 700 DI diesel engine designed to deliver higher torque, stronger pulling power and improved pickup. It features a seven-foot cargo deck and a payload capacity of 750 kg, which the company claims is the highest in the three-wheeler cargo segment.
The vehicle also comes with a 3.5-inch digital instrument cluster, a redesigned driver cabin for improved comfort, 12-inch radial tyres for better stability and load distribution, and an optional rear parking sensor. It is offered with a five-year warranty.
Commenting on the development, Amit Sagar, Executive Vice President, CV Domestic Business and Retail Finance at Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, said the order from HeidelbergCement India Limited validates the vehicle’s ability to serve applications traditionally dominated by four-wheeler small commercial vehicles.
He said the Apé Xtra Bada 700 has been designed to enhance productivity and profitability for customers through higher payload capacity, a larger cargo deck and improved total cost of ownership.
The deployment of the vehicles across multiple districts is expected to support last-mile logistics and regional distribution requirements in the cement sector, the company added.
