Mumbai: Greaves Cotton Limited has been recognised as the “Best Governed Company – Listed Segment: Emerging Category” at the 25th ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance, reinforcing its reputation as one of India’s most respected engineering companies with strong governance foundations.

The award was announced at a ceremony held in New Delhi, attended by senior government officials, corporate leaders and governance experts from across the country. Instituted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, the awards are considered among the most credible benchmarks of corporate governance in India, acknowledging organisations that demonstrate high standards of transparency, accountability and ethical leadership.

The 2025 jury was chaired by former Chief Justice of India Dr Justice D Y Chandrachud and included eminent professionals from law, finance, governance and public policy. Companies were assessed through a rigorous multi-stage process that examined disclosures, governance frameworks, ethical practices and long-term value creation for stakeholders.

Karan Thapar, Chairman of Greaves Cotton Limited, addressed the gathering at the awards ceremony and underlined the central role of governance in sustaining trust over time. He said corporate governance ultimately rests on the confidence of investors, employees, customers and society, adding that while short-term performance may attract market attention, it is governance that ensures enduring credibility. He noted that the recognition reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to transparency, accountability and responsible leadership, values that will continue to guide the company’s growth.

In a further recognition for the company, Atindra Basu, Group General Counsel and Company Secretary of Greaves Cotton, was honoured with the Governance Professional of the Year award at the same ceremony. The award acknowledged his contribution to strengthening governance practices within the organisation.

With a legacy of more than 165 years, Greaves Cotton Limited is a diversified engineering company with operations spanning energy solutions, mobility solutions and industrial solutions. Known for its precision engineering capabilities, the company is also one of India’s largest manufacturers of single-cylinder diesel engines and has a long-standing association with defence and naval applications. Through its investments in Greaves Electric Mobility and Greaves Finance, the company is also playing a key role in supporting the adoption of electric vehicles in India.

The latest recognition adds to Greaves Cotton’s standing as a future-ready organisation where strong governance underpins innovation, sustainable growth and long-term stakeholder trust.
