New Delhi: SWITCH Mobility on Monday said it has secured an order for 840 electric buses from Antony Road Transport Solutions under Phase I of the Centre’s PM E-Drive scheme.
The order comprises 420 9-metre and 420 12-metre air-conditioned electric buses, which will be deployed with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and the Transport Department, Delhi, for passenger transportation, the company said.
Antony Road Transport Solutions has been selected as the operator for Delhi under the CESL PM E-Drive Phase I tender.
The deployment agreement has been formalised between SWITCH Mobility and Antony Road Transport Solutions and is aimed at supporting the electrification of public transportation in the national capital.
“We are pleased to partner with Antony Road Transport Solutions for deployment of 840 electric buses across Delhi by Delhi Transport Corporation and Transport Department, Delhi,” SWITCH Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said.
He said the order reflected growing confidence in electric mobility solutions for large-scale public transportation.
Antony Road Transport Solutions Director Jimmy John said the company’s long-term relationship with Ashok Leyland and its trust in the Hinduja Group had led to the order.
“We believe this partnership will go a long way towards supporting the NCR’s sustainable mobility journey,” he said.
The buses will be based on SWITCH Mobility’s EiV platform and feature modular battery configurations, advanced electric powertrains and regenerative braking. The company said dual-gun fast charging would support quicker turnaround and improve fleet utilisation.
The buses will also offer low-floor access, spacious interiors, comfortable seating and USB charging facilities. Safety features include fire detection and suppression systems and multi-level battery protection.
Through its SWITCH iON platform, the buses will provide real-time vehicle monitoring, diagnostics and fleet management capabilities to help operators improve operational efficiency and reliability.
SWITCH Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, said it has deployed more than 3,000 electric buses globally, which have cumulatively covered over 200 million kilometres.
The company also manufactures electric light commercial vehicles under its SWITCH IeV series, with more than 3,000 electric LCVs currently on the road, it said.
The latest order further expands SWITCH Mobility’s presence in India’s electric public transport segment as cities and transport operators increasingly adopt zero-emission buses for urban passenger mobility.
