Panaji: In a major stride towards sustainable urban development, EKA Mobility, a leading innovator in electric vehicles and clean mobility solutions, has partnered with the Sankhali Municipal Council (SMC) to deploy ten state-of-the-art electric garbage tippers in the town of Sankhali, Goa. The initiative, aimed at promoting eco-friendly municipal services, was officially inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, on June 5, 2025 — aligning with the state’s ongoing efforts to become a leader in green infrastructure and climate-conscious governance.
The newly inducted electric garbage tippers are designed to cater to the rigorous demands of daily municipal waste collection while adhering to environmental standards. Each vehicle is powered by a 32 kWh lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) battery and offers a top speed of 80 km/h. With a driving range of up to 180 km on a single charge, the tippers are well-suited for urban and semi-urban operational cycles. The battery system, which requires approximately 6 to 8 hours for a full recharge, ensures uninterrupted daily usage. A payload capacity of approximately 1,000 kg allows for efficient handling of substantial waste volumes, making the vehicles an ideal solution for modern municipal needs.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Rohit Srivastava, Business Head & Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, highlighted the company’s commitment to grassroots-level sustainability. “At EKA, we believe sustainability begins at the street level — in the everyday services that define our cities. This deployment with SMC is a model for how municipalities can embrace innovation to serve both people and the planet,” he stated.

Representatives from the Sankhali Municipal Council echoed similar sentiments about the partnership. Ms. Siddhi S Prabhu Porob, Chairperson of SMC, and Ms. Rashmi Dilip Desai, Former Chairperson of SMC, jointly expressed their optimism about the initiative’s potential impact. “This partnership with EKA Mobility marks a pivotal moment in Sankhali’s journey towards cleaner, greener governance. These electric tippers will enhance the efficiency of waste collection and reflect our commitment to responsible and progressive urban development,” they said.
The deployment of these electric tippers not only marks a significant step forward in Goa’s environmental policy but also sets a benchmark for other municipalities across India. With zero tailpipe emissions, reduced noise pollution, and integrated telematics systems for better fleet management, EKA Mobility’s garbage tippers are poised to transform the traditional waste collection landscape into a cleaner, quieter, and smarter process.
The collaboration between EKA Mobility and the Sankhali Municipal Council stands as a testimony to how public-private partnerships can effectively drive change in essential civic services while reinforcing the nation’s broader goals of sustainable urbanization and decarbonization.
