Jaipur: National Engineering Industries Ltd. (NEI), the flagship company of the CK Birla Group and manufacturer of NBC Bearings, has taken a significant leap in its sustainability journey by publishing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for eight of its bearing product categories. This move positions NBC Bearings among a select group of global bearing manufacturers that offer independently verified life cycle data for their products.

An Environmental Product Declaration is a standardized and independently verified document that transparently details a product’s environmental footprint throughout its entire life cycle — from raw material extraction to manufacturing, usage, and eventual disposal. The EPDs issued by NBC Bearings adhere to internationally recognized standards, including ISO 14025 and EN 15804, and are officially registered with the International EPD® System, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to global sustainability benchmarks.

This landmark initiative is aligned with NEI’s broader sustainability strategy aimed at embedding responsible practices across its operations and supply chain. By offering transparent, third-party verified environmental data, NBC Bearings is enabling its global clientele—particularly original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and industrial customers—to make more informed and sustainable purchasing decisions. Moreover, these declarations support the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and Scope 3 reporting requirements of NBC’s customers, thus contributing meaningfully to their environmental accountability goals.

Rohit Saboo, President & CEO of NEI, emphasized the importance of transparency in driving sustainable transformation. “We believe that true sustainability begins with transparency. By publishing EPDs for our bearings, we are empowering our customers with credible data to make responsible choices and reduce their carbon footprint. This initiative not only strengthens NBC’s position as a responsible engineering partner but also prepares us to participate in green supply chains across the world,” he stated.

Far from being mere disclosure tools, these EPDs are set to act as a strategic compass for NBC Bearings’ internal sustainability initiatives. The life cycle data will help the company identify high-impact materials and processes, reduce waste, and optimize energy consumption. They also provide a robust foundation for ongoing product and process improvements and encourage sustainable procurement decisions by NBC’s partners and clients worldwide.

The publication of EPDs is one of several key pillars in NBC Bearings’ comprehensive sustainability roadmap. Other major initiatives include the adoption of clean and renewable energy sources, enhancements in manufacturing efficiency, promotion of green logistics and transportation systems, and contribution to circular economy practices such as bearing remanufacturing.

With this development, NBC Bearings not only reinforces its leadership in environmental stewardship within the bearing manufacturing industry but also underlines its role as a forward-thinking, globally responsible enterprise dedicated to engineering excellence and sustainable growth.
