New Delhi: Hinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland reported a solid performance in January 2026, with commercial vehicle sales registering strong year-on-year growth, led by a sharp rise in truck and light commercial vehicle demand.

Cumulative domestic sales for the financial year so far rose to 1,58,298 units, compared to 1,41,453 units in the corresponding period of the previous year, reflecting a growth of 12%.
The medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) truck segment remained the key growth driver. Domestic M&HCV truck sales surged 45% year-on-year to 11,359 units in January 2026, up from 7,839 units in January 2025. On a cumulative basis, truck sales stood at 81,035 units, an increase of 12% over last year.
The M&HCV bus segment saw a moderation during the month, with domestic sales declining 27% to 1,474 units from 2,025 units a year earlier. Despite the monthly dip, cumulative bus sales edged up 7% to 17,496 units, indicating stable demand over the broader financial year. Overall domestic M&HCV sales, including trucks and buses, climbed 30% in January to 12,833 units, while cumulative volumes rose 11% to 98,531 units.
Light commercial vehicles (LCVs) also posted strong growth. Domestic LCV sales increased 33% year-on-year to 7,246 units in January 2026. For the year so far, cumulative LCV volumes reached 59,767 units, up 13% compared to the same period last year.
Including exports, Ashok Leyland’s total vehicle sales for January 2026 stood at 21,920 units, a growth of 27% over 17,213 units sold in January 2025. Cumulative domestic and export sales rose 13% year-on-year to 1,72,899 units.
In the combined domestic and export category, M&HCV truck sales grew 43% in January to 11,800 units, while cumulative volumes increased 12% to 83,600 units. The M&HCV bus segment declined 22% during the month to 2,420 units, though cumulative sales recorded a strong 19% growth at 26,785 units. Total M&HCV sales, including trucks and buses, rose 25% year-on-year to 14,220 units in January, with cumulative sales up 13% at 1,10,385 units.
LCV sales, including exports, rose 32% year-on-year to 7,700 units during the month, while cumulative volumes reached 62,514 units, reflecting a 12% increase.
The strong January performance underscores steady demand from infrastructure, logistics and freight segments, even as the bus category showed some short-term softness. Overall, the growth in trucks and LCVs points to a positive outlook for Ashok Leyland as it moves through the final quarter of the financial year.
