New Delhi: VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) and Rosmerta Auto Recycling Pvt Ltd (RARPL) have entered into a strategic partnership to facilitate authorised scrapping and recycling of end-of-life commercial vehicles across the National Capital Region (NCR).

The partnership between Rosmerta Auto Recycling, a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF), and Eicher Trucks and Buses, a business unit of VECV, will provide Eicher dealers and customers with a structured and compliant vehicle scrapping process, the companies said in a statement on Monday.

The initiative comes as India’s formal vehicle scrappage ecosystem gains momentum, with more than 4.3 lakh vehicles having already been scrapped through RVSFs.

Under the partnership, Rosmerta Auto Recycling will support Eicher customers and dealers with registration and documentation under the PARIVARTAN scheme, generation of digital Certificates of Deposit (CoD), scientific dismantling and depollution of end-of-life vehicles, and other regulatory requirements.

The collaboration will also facilitate the generation and transfer of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) credits from compliant end-of-life vehicle recycling, wherever applicable, besides recovery and processing of metals and other automotive materials for reuse and recycling.

“We appreciate the Government’s initiative to incentivise customers to responsibly retire old vehicles. For Eicher truck and bus customers, this is particularly relevant, as they look to balance vehicle productivity, operating efficiency, safety and lifecycle costs,” said S S Gill, Chief Commercial Officer, VE Commercial Vehicles.

“We are thrilled to associate with Rosmerta Auto Recycling to provide Eicher customers with access to a structured scrapping ecosystem,” he added.

Rosmerta Group President Kartick V Ngpal said the next step for India’s vehicle scrappage ecosystem was to translate policy momentum into greater adoption on the ground.

“Our partnership with Eicher Trucks and Buses is aimed at doing precisely that for commercial vehicle owners in NCR. By bringing an authorised, transparent and structured scrapping journey closer to dealers and customers, we can make vehicle retirement simpler while ensuring that vehicles are scientifically dismantled and valuable materials are recovered and returned to the circular economy,” he said.

The Vehicle Scrappage Policy provides a framework involving RVSFs, Certificates of Deposit and incentives aimed at encouraging vehicle owners to shift from informal disposal channels to authorised scrapping facilities.

The companies said the partnership would support fleet renewal and responsible retirement of ageing commercial vehicles while strengthening the formal end-of-life vehicle recycling ecosystem in NCR.

For transport vehicles purchased against a Certificate of Deposit under the PARIVARTAN scheme for the NCT region, eligible vehicles can avail benefits including a 100 per cent waiver of road or motor vehicle tax for 10 years and loan interest subvention of up to 5 per cent of the interest payable on the replacement vehicle, as per the applicable scheme provisions.

The scientific dismantling of end-of-life vehicles enables recovery of steel, aluminium and other automotive materials, allowing them to re-enter productive supply chains and supporting the development of a circular automotive economy.
