CAPE TOWN: Tata Motors Limited on Thursday showcased a wide-ranging portfolio of 11 commercial vehicles in Cape Town, South Africa, highlighting its engineering capabilities, global product strategy and growing focus on electrification and sustainable mobility solutions for international markets.

The display included a mix of next-generation electric vehicles and established diesel platforms across intra-city, regional and heavy-duty applications, reflecting the company’s approach of designing application-led mobility solutions tailored to diverse operating conditions. The lineup is aimed at improving productivity, enhancing uptime and reducing total cost of ownership for commercial operators across segments.

Among the key highlights was the all-new Ultra Prime RE, a rear-engine midi bus designed for urban and peri-urban passenger transport, and the Azura range of intermediate and light-duty trucks targeted at regional and inter-city freight movement. The portfolio also included electric mobility solutions such as the Tata Ace Pro EV for last-mile delivery, Intra EV pickup, Ultra E.9 light truck and Prima E28.K electric tipper designed for mining and construction applications.

In passenger transport, the company showcased models including the LPO 1618 Magna and LPO 1623 Nova buses for inter-city travel, the LP 909 compact school and staff transport bus, and other variants aimed at improving ride comfort and operational efficiency across different route profiles.

Speaking at the event, Tata Motors’ Head – International Business Asif Shamim said the portfolio reflects the company’s continued focus on building relevant, application-led solutions for global markets. He added that the showcased vehicles demonstrate the breadth of platforms and technologies being developed across segments, including electric mobility, with emphasis on reliability, productivity and customer-centric design.

The company noted that it currently operates across 29 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa through a network of regional partners including Tata International, Panafrique Motors, KOMCO Motors and Allied Motors, supported by more than 320 service touchpoints. It has also established seven assembly operations across the continent, including in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia, strengthening local manufacturing capabilities and employment generation.

Tata Motors said it has already sold over 3,40,000 commercial vehicles in the region and offers more than 60 models spanning sub-1-tonne to 60-tonne cargo segments and passenger mobility solutions ranging from 9-seater to 71-seater configurations. The company added that its expanding presence in Africa aligns with its broader global strategy of deepening localisation, strengthening partnerships and supporting long-term mobility requirements in fast-growing markets.

The company further emphasised its customer support ecosystem, highlighting over 320 service centres across the region, extended warranty programmes and customised annual maintenance contracts aimed at ensuring higher uptime and lower lifecycle costs for operators.

With its latest showcase in Cape Town, Tata Motors said Sub-Saharan Africa remains a key growth pillar for its international business, driven by rising demand for modern, efficient and sustainable commercial mobility solutions.
