New Delhi: Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Monday announced plans to set up a new vehicle manufacturing plant in Maharashtra with an annual production capacity of 1 lakh units as part of efforts to strengthen its long-term global competitiveness and expand operations in India.

The new facility will come up at the Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra and is expected to commence production in the first half of 2029, the company said in a statement.

The plant will manufacture a new SUV model and will cater not only to domestic demand but also to customers in surrounding regions, it added.

The proposed facility will have stamping, welding, painting and assembly operations and is expected to employ around 2,800 people at the start of production.

The company said the expansion reflects its commitment to strengthening its production structure in India to respond flexibly to future demand growth and evolving market conditions.

Toyota said it has grown in India with the support of local stakeholders and communities and will continue contributing to the development of the country’s automotive industry through the new investment.

The automaker added that the upcoming plant would help ensure timely delivery of products aligned with customer preferences while enhancing its manufacturing footprint in the region.
