The event served as a platform for knowledge exchange and strategic dialogue, focusing on cleaner, greener, and more efficient electric motor technologies.

The Chintan Shivir featured extensive discussions on breakthrough innovations, sustainable technologies, and emerging trends in e-motors, with particular attention to supply chain resilience, indigenous manufacturing capabilities, and self-reliance. Participants explored the potential of alternate motor technologies and ancillary solutions, highlighting key motor types including Induction Motors, Switched Reluctance Motors (SRMs), Wound-Field Synchronous Motors (WFSMs), Permanent-Magnet-Assisted Synchronous Reluctance Motors (PMA-SRMs), and motors using ferrite or other non-rare-earth materials.

A central focus of the event was the development of a nationally aligned roadmap for alternate motor technologies, with segment-wise prioritization across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger cars, buses, and commercial vehicles. Discussions identified short, medium, and long-term technology options based on factors such as maturity, cost, and performance, underscoring a strategic approach to India’s e-mobility ambitions.

Kamran Rizvi, Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, emphasized that the Chintan Shivir’s objectives extend beyond addressing rare-earth magnet supply concerns. He stressed the need for India to develop next-generation electric motors that are lighter, more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable, aiming to position the country as a global leader in the evolving electric vehicle sector.

The event concluded with a unified commitment from industry bodies, academic and research institutions, and other stakeholders to collaborate in advancing India’s automotive technology landscape. The Chintan Shivir marked a pivotal step toward fostering a resilient, competitive, and future-ready automotive ecosystem, reinforcing the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Staff WriterNew Delhi: The Ministry of Heavy Industries convened a high-level Chintan Shivir on “Alternate & Emerging Technologies in E-Motors” on Friday at Vigyan Bhawan, bringing together industry leaders, domain experts, academic researchers, and technology innovators to deliberate on advancing India’s electric mobility ecosystem.
