Mumbai: Tata Motors Limited reported robust growth in its commercial vehicle (CV) business in January 2026, with total domestic and international sales rising 29.9% year-on-year to 41,549 units, compared to 31,988 units sold in the same month last year.
The growth was led by strong performance across key truck segments. Sales of heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) trucks surged 41.2% to 12,691 units in January 2026, up from 8,990 units a year earlier. The intermediate, light and medium commercial vehicle (ILMCV) truck segment also saw healthy momentum, recording a 33.5% increase with sales of 7,071 units against 5,298 units in January 2025.
The small commercial vehicle (SCV) cargo and pickup segment continued its steady rise, posting sales of 14,520 units, a growth of 29.5% over the 11,213 units sold in the year-ago period. Passenger carriers, however, remained largely flat, with sales marginally dipping to 4,562 units from 4,582 units last year.
Domestic commercial vehicle sales stood at 38,844 units in January 2026, marking a 29.1% increase over 30,083 units sold in January 2025. International business outperformed the domestic market in percentage terms, with sales climbing 42% to 2,705 units, compared to 1,905 units in the corresponding month last year.
In the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (MH&ICV) segment, domestic sales rose sharply to 19,676 units in January 2026 from 15,137 units in January 2025. Including international markets, MH&ICV sales reached 20,792 units during the month, registering a significant increase over 16,076 units sold a year ago.
The strong January performance reflects sustained demand for trucks across infrastructure, logistics and construction sectors, reinforcing Tata Motors’ leadership position in the commercial vehicle market as it enters the final quarter of the financial year.
