Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra reported a robust performance in its Trucks and Buses business in November, with overall sales, including exports, rising to 2,232 vehicles. This marked a sharp 57 percent year-on-year increase for the CV portfolio above 3.5 tonnes, supported by broad-based improvements across both cargo and passenger segments.
The business, which includes Mahindra Trucks & Buses (MTBD) and SML Mahindra Limited, benefited from stronger customer sentiment following the recent GST cut, according to Vinod Sahay, Executive Chairman of SML and President of the Trucks, Buses and Construction Equipment divisions. He said the industry saw a clear uplift in November driven by better affordability and renewed buying activity, adding that the momentum is expected to continue in the coming months.
Within the combined MTBD and SML portfolio, cargo vehicles accounted for 1,284 units, up 48 percent from last year, while passenger carriers grew even faster, climbing 72 percent to 948 units. Together, both categories pushed the total to 2,232 units from 1,420 units a year earlier.
Mahindra Trucks & Buses alone recorded a steady performance. MTBD sold 1,145 vehicles in November, posting 30 percent growth year-on-year. Cargo vehicle sales rose to 855 units from 633, while the passenger category expanded to 290 units. The year-to-date tally for MTBD reached 8,563 units, reflecting 5 percent growth over the previous financial year.
SML Mahindra, meanwhile, delivered a standout month with sales more than doubling. The company sold 1,087 vehicles in November, a surge of 102 percent over the 539 units recorded last year. Cargo vehicle sales grew 83 percent to 429 units, while passenger carriers saw a sharp 116 percent jump to 658 units. With these gains, SML’s year-to-date sales climbed to 10,291 units, up 15 percent from last year.
With both MTBD and SML showing strong momentum, Mahindra closed November with one of its most promising monthly performances this financial year, signalling healthier demand and renewed traction in the commercial vehicle sector.
