Mumbai: Greaves Cotton Limited has strengthened India’s position in the global automotive value chain through a new partnership with France-based Ligier Group, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of light and heavy quadricycles. The collaboration marks a significant milestone for the 165-year-old engineering company, as its Euro V+ certified 499cc REVO D+ diesel engines are now powering Ligier’s latest microcars across several European markets.
The engines, designed and manufactured at Greaves’ Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility, are being deployed in Ligier’s JS50 and Myli models. These vehicles are sold in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Greece, Lithuania, Estonia and the Czech Republic. Their widespread adoption signals growing confidence in Indian-engineered powertrains that meet high regulatory and performance expectations.
The single-cylinder, 4-stroke REVO D+ engine delivers 6.0 kW of power at 3000 rpm and 26 Nm of torque between 1800 and 2200 rpm. Built for the L6e microcar segment, the unit focuses on fuel efficiency, durability, and quiet operation. Strong acceptance among European customers comes from the balance it offers between responsive performance for younger drivers and refined NVH levels valued by older users.
To meet Euro V+ standards, the engine underwent extensive European-grade testing that included endurance trials, cold weather validation, lifecycle reliability checks and emissions testing aligned with international regulations. The rigorous certification process underlines Greaves Cotton’s capability to meet the environmental and quality benchmarks of advanced global markets.
The company’s work goes beyond building engines. Greaves has developed a full vehicle control ecosystem to support OEM integration, strengthening its transition from a powertrain supplier to a provider of end-to-end mobility solutions for global customers. The partnership with Ligier reflects this evolution toward a solutions-led engineering model.
Managing Director and Group CEO Parag Satpute said the collaboration represents a proud moment for Greaves Cotton. He said the adoption of a Made-in-India powertrain across Europe highlights the company’s engineering expertise and its ability to meet international quality standards consistently. Satpute added that the company will continue investing in capabilities that support global OEMs seeking high-performance, efficient and sustainable mobility technologies.
Ligier Group CEO Christian Dujardin described the partnership as one built on trust and close teamwork. He said the REVO D+ powertrain fits the expectations of today’s micromobility market, offering efficiency, reliability and compliance. Dujardin noted that both companies are already working on future developments to maintain a competitive edge and sustain Ligier’s reputation for innovation.
The collaboration underscores a larger trend of Indian engineering firms becoming important contributors to Europe’s mobility ecosystem. By combining Greaves Cotton’s application engineering strengths with Ligier’s deep understanding of the European micromobility market, the partnership sets a benchmark for cross-border innovation in efficient, clean and compact mobility technologies.
